Brush of Wings by Karen Kingsbury

Brush of WIngs by Karen KingsburyDespite needing a heart transplant and against the advice of her doctor, Mary Catherine moves to Uganda to work at a new orphanage. Whatever time she has left, Mary Catherine wants to spend it helping children—especially since there will be no children of her own. The only problem is Major League Baseball player Marcus Dillinger, the man she never meant to fall in love with. Neither Marcus nor Mary Catherine’s other friends—Tyler Ames and Sami Dawson—know just how serious her heart condition is.

Still, Marcus is sure in the depths of his soul that something isn’t right. Ultimately his correspondence with Mary Catherine leads him on a desperate life-or-death mission to rescue her and get her to a US hospital before time runs out. Meanwhile, Sami and Tyler struggle with issues of their own. In a season when Tyler plans to ask Sami to marry him, the very core of their relationship is in jeopardy.

The team of angels walking is busier than ever in this epic battle between life and death. Brush of Wings is a poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and the power of faith.

I’m so sad to see this series end. I have come to love Mary Catherine, Marcus, Sami and Tyler. Even Lexi has my heart. But they are not the main characters here, God is! You can feel him in every book written by Karen Kingsbury but Brush of Wings took it a lot deeper.

Mary Catherine is about to have her dreams come true, living in Africa for six months. She only has one problem, her heart. It is getting worse and she needs a transplant ASAP. She is in love with Marcus, but refuses to admit it. He loves her too, and has no problem saying so. Marcus is doing everything he can to change her mind, but she is dead set on not being ‘marriage material.’

Sami is continuing on with the youth center. They have added a counseling night for the teen girls in the neighborhood. A lot of people are showing up, and opening up. Everyone except Lext. Tyler is busy at training camp and can’t get home to see Sami very often. But their relationship is going strong and about to take a huge step.

Now, back to Lexi. She is back in the gang. Dating the leader, and paying the price for it. He is angry all the time, and really ruff with her. When she tells him some huge news he flips, and she knows she has to get out.

Lexi and Sami become close while Mary Catherine is away. When she finally comes back home there are a lot of surprises to go around. Brush of Wings makes so many dreams come true for these characters while pulling them through life changing seasons. You will cry, laugh, then cry some more. But trust me, its totally worth it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. These thoughts and opinions are all mine!
