Blogging 101- Day 9
Today’s Task: write a post that builds on one of the comments you left yesterday. Don’t forget to link to the other blog!
Yesterday, or early this morning, while browsing blogs I found this post, Question of the Day – What is your favorite book? To be perfectly honest, I haven’t thought about my favorite books in a while. After leaving my comment, about my favorite authors and series instead of book, I could not get the question out of my head. There is only one book that constantly pops to mind when thinking this question. That’s Dreamland by Sarah Dessen, the one book I always keep at the front of my shelf. I first read it when I was in high school. I try to read it at least every year or so (as with all Sarah Dessen books).
Caitlin grew up always following behind her big sister Cass, until the day Caitlin turns 16, they wake up and Cass is gone. Having to find your way when someone has always led the way for you before can be really hard and Caitlin is looking for her own life “after Cass.” Caitlin meets bad boy Rogerson at a party one night and they start dating. After a while the relationship turn abusive, Caitlin not knowing when it’s going to happen again. Caitlin toys with a lot of different ways she believes are ‘dealing’ with her feelings and relationships until soon everything spirals out of control. This is a true story of desperation, hopelessness, and then hope for the future.
It’s been a while since I have read Dreamland and everything is coming back so easily just thinking about it. If I don’t stop myself I will ruin the book for you. So from there I am just going to say: READ IT, if you haven’t already. This is a great book for all women, not just teens. Dads if you have daughters, even if you don’t, you will also get something out of this Sarah Dessen novel.
Now the question for all of you. What is your favorite book? Why is it your favorite?

House of Stairs by William Sleator. I read it the first time when I was about 10 or 11. It set the precedence for the types of books I read now… mind blowing. 🙂

Thanks for sharing about your favorite book! I’m unfamiliar with both the author and the book so look forward to picking up something new. As for my favorite…that’s a really tough one! My favorite this year: The Mill River Recluse, by Darcie Chan.

Oh mine is Where the Rainbow Ends by Jameson Currier – it’s a novel about a young man coming of age in New York – he’s gay and enjoying the party lifestyle and then the Aids crisis hits. It follows him through his life as he grows up and deals with love, loss, family, religion … all kinds of topics. It had me absolutely sobbing many, many times!
Dreamland sounds great as well, I will check it out 🙂

My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice which I try to read once a year. I am convinced I was born in the wrong era on the wrong continent.
I have yet to read a S. Dessen novel but have been told to get it done. I’ll have to make sure Dreamland is high on my Dessen to read list.

I agree, Pride and Prejudice is one of my favs. Once you read one book by Dessen, you will want to read them all!

Hello guys. Just to weigh in on the topic; it is good that you guys can remember your favorite books that well. I, on the other hand, would have to give that question much though, as it is difficult to single out a specific book. I like Self-help and Motivational books; however, I did enjoy reading the detective series by Agatha Christie: “Dumb Witness” and “Hickory Dickory Death”. Pretty simple, but they were interesting.

I am this weird person who loves whichever book she is reading at the moment (maybe because I am too choosy about which book to buy). I love most of Jhumpa Lahiri’s works, because she represents people from my background. If I were to choose a favourite among her works, it will probably be Unaccustomed Earth.
